Gray Water
When we shower or do the dishes we produce gray water which is water that
contains soaps and/or detergents. Usually, there is only one
tank to accumulate gray and black (sewage) waters but it is possible
to have a separate tank for the gray waters. It is however, not recommended
to dispose of any soapy water in the Bay. Phosphate, which is often present in detergent, disturbs
the nutrient balance in the water. This increases the algae growth and
contributes to the eutrophication of our Bay (as well as any sewage discharge).
To prevent this from happening use phosphate free soap or natural alternatives.
